This needed to be said. Both about the ONDP (which I call Liberal light) and about the disgraceful ganging up on Sarah Jama by all political parties in Onterrible. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
Thanks, Ms. Loreto, from the bottom of my heart as someone who trudged through a blizzard to vote for Jama last March. I'll vote for her and Matt Green, but cannot reconcile how the NDP sold out a true fighter for Hamilton Centre.
This article didn't wear well. Nota seemed to think there was a critical mass of "average people" who were horrified by Israel's response in Gaza and were poised to run to the barricades and tear down the establishment over it. Yet here we are 10 months later. Sarah Jama is forgotten, Ottawa Pride has lost the support of all grown-ups, the DNC has completely marginalized the pro-Palestinian crowd, and the keffiya-wearing mobs that march in our streets are being largely ignored by the media and public.
The Canadian parliament and Ont. legislature no longer function democratically, therefore they don't actually represent citizens. The recent spectacle in the house of Commons of parliamentary sheep(every party incl. the NDP) standing to honour an ancient Nazi war criminal as well as the money-laundering Ukrainian leader, Zelenskyy. Now this! The Ont. NDP doing the bidding of the bullying dolt Ford, who is using this manufactured issue to cover the fact that he and his co-conspirators are under investigation for possible criminal acts in the Greenbelt debacle. Jama is exercising her democratic right to express an opinion that runs contrary to that of the sheep who occupy seats in the Legislature. The NDP is a shell of whatever good they once stood for. I've lost all respect for these pretenders. I'm just another voter who's been disenfranchised with no political representation in a sea of woke, snowflakes and unprincipled jellyfish. Pathetic!
This made me profoundly sad. It’s so rare that someone in power voices my thoughts and feelings about important issues. It felt like things were turning, that the needle that measures compassion was moving in a positive direction.
I felt like the NDP was actually going to represent its constituents and speak for all of who have been silenced for so long.
Marit Stiles is a coward and a disgrace. Jama's censure is nothing less than a crucifixion engineered to instill fear in the rest of caucus and the public writ large. So they can go back to pretending this country is a "democracy."
I posted the link to this fine piece on Mastodon, and it's getting a lot of boosts (= "retweets"). The whole sad story of the ONDP's cynical actions remind me of a poem from the old (but classic!) Pogo comic strip:
Mark, at least try to spell Jama correctly. It's right there.
Arguing that "the realities of Israel" necessitate murdering 2000 children is just being an apologist for genocide. Israel can stop bombing Gaza right this minute and guess what -- Israelies will be no less safe or more safe than they were yesterday. Safety does not pass through the mass execution of our neighbours.

Nate, take a look at Matt Green's statement about these events. Anything in there about her removal from caucus? https://x.com/MatthewGreenNDP/status/1716458720115216876?s=20
Doesn't seem like it to me. Wonder why.

“Those who fight when all have fled
Walk with hero’s mighty tread.
But those who fight, then run away,
Live to run another day.”
This has nothing to do with Sarah Jama's comments or the ONDP though.
