The amount of white nationalist garbage this moment has evoked and the absence of say a solidarity-with-Mexico type of response has kind of been disappointing, but this article pretty clearly addresses why it's gone this way. It's a shame because the issues a solidarity type response would bring forward are far more interesting.

I believe in decentralization. We have concentrated too much power in the office of the Prime Minister.

As such, I believe in Alberta first, Saskatchewan first, Quebec first, Newfoundland first as the leaders in these provinces should look out for their own interests. It is the role of the Federal Government to find common interests between Alberta & PEI and bring forth policies that enhance the cooperation between the regions. Much of what the last 40 years has brought is Quebec being played against Alberta which ultimately undermines Canada as a Nation.

With respect the Artic, I am all in favor of creating Militia's across the north. In my vision it should be the people who live on the land, who know the land, who love the land, who defend the land. (Inuit hunters who are members of the Militia and have access to drones) These militias should also be responsible for emergency response & search and rescue. In other words, a vision that empowers the people who live in the regions to be responsible for their own security.

Having said that, we do also need to create transportation corridors across the north, and develop ports on the artic Ocean. Again, it should be the people of the North that take the lead on this.

No, I do not live in the delusion that I can influence the federal government in any way. Nor, am I under the elusion that I can comprehend the finances of the Federal Government.

What I want is government that can be comprehended, and held to account. What I want is government that is not a scam.

Canada has an obligation to protect our first nations. I've been to the arctic as part of a sovereignty exercise, wherein Canadian Forces patrol our northern expanse to exert internationally-recognized ownership of such. The Innuit, for all their strengths, are not able to effect a defence of their lands, and the do need all the investment they can get in their infrastructure.

New bases, an enhanced presence and nuclear icebreakers go a long way to helping poise Canada to take advantage of new trade routes opening around the arctic circle due to warming. New bases means new airstrips, new roads, new investments, and new focus on the people and their issues, I believe.

Don't forget that he said he'd cancel Canada's foreign aid to pay for this.

I don't know why so few people picked up on that.

Good comment, but I am personally glad he has moved on from spitting at Trudeau and axing the tax. He was tiresome. He might not have very good ideas about how to withstand Trump's annexation, but it's better to have a slightly awake leader of the opposition than one who thinks the government next door would never hurt us. No one looks all that hunky when a behemoth is knocking at your door. Instead of belittling Poilievre, let's try to encourage the Conservatives to try to get David Orchard to ditch the Liberals now that Carney is their candidate. Orchard was, and still is, a real nationalist.
