Millionaires and billionaires are making the decisions these days and Carney is just another one of them. He understands money. Morality is not in his repertoire.

I am not happy with the strong focus on weapons of war instead of helping people being starved and killed by Israel. A few weeks ago he said he would sanction Israel and he did not. The G7 came out for Ukraine but not a word for Gaza. I find this unforgiveable. Soulless.

Thanks for taking the time to write this, Nora.

Linda McQuaig's "Holding the Bully's Coat" seems to be Canada's default stance. One of my children asked a few weeks ago why Canada still has the mindset of a colony. Good question, kid. Good question.

Anyone who continues to characterize Iran as a terrorist state likely supports the actual terrorist state. We are lucky enough to live safe as one of her provinces.........but any country who attempts to chart its own course is courting trouble.

I'm so sick of the First World's blatant lies and belief they can confuse things like first attack aggression against a sovereign country as 'self defence'..(Carney did that on the first day of Israel's sudden bombing of Iran).......that I can barely look at main stream media.

And as for the Liberals protecting us from Trump.......they secretely believe making peace with him and green lighting the American/Israeli alliance for world domination, will keep us safe.

Delusion dancing cheek to jowl with hubris.

He looked a bit stunned! We can’t be warmongers allowing history to repeat itself. Giving our $ to a war that isn’t ours was for Justin’s photo ops and flaunting. JT you stepped out, stay there&please shut up.

Canadians need Carney’s focus. Rubbing shoulders with other oligarchs ignoring Canada is UNWISE!!

The economy has tanked and recessed, housing been neglected and health services needs focus! Close up our borders, get rid of the growing criminal element&help the addicted to dry out giving tools to will stay sober.

Have you seen the outstanding liabilities?! Hello?? Budget?? Crickets…

Moral is low and grants aren’t helping. SOS

To some degree I think this reflects a general degradation of democracy - it increasingly seems that public opinion is basically irrelevant and the state will do what it wants anyway; public opinion is a nuisance that has to managed but not listened to. You can see this too in the Iran bombing campaign: the manufacturing-consent machine just rehashed 2002/2003 Iraq war propaganda in like two days, because ultimately it didn’t matter. Is this the legacy of neoliberalism, the collapse of mass politics, something else?

Neoliberalism is part of it..........imperial colonialism is playing a role as well.

Anyone who thinks any state other than America is the terrorist threat hasn't been reading history or watching the news. Who exactly has Iran bombed lately???

Oh right! She's been providing arms for some of the people in the Middle East too courageous to look away as Israel genocides the indigenous people of Palestine....

TERRIFYING YES??? In what propagandist's Bible???

In the end, its a black, one word answer to your good question I'm afraid: OIL

The Middle East had it......but we know betters in the first world, took most of it from them.

Iran??? The destruction began with America and Great Britains deposing of a duly elected leader...Mossadegh...who had the temerity to believe he could nationalize Iran's oil.

Poor idealist....they made short work of him, and Iran experienced the Shaw's terrorism for decades. Check out Robert Fisk's THE GREAT WARS FOR CIVILIZATION...he went into the Shaw's torture chambers when Iran got rid of him......it makes for grizzley reading.

If I remember correctly, Chrétien stated that Canada would participate in military action in Iraq only if it was sanctioned by the United Nations.

Personally I'm inclined to judge Carney based on what he actually ends up doing, rather than what he says in situations where diplomatic comments are required.

But what Carney says helps legitimize what has happened, and what MAY happen.

If Carney (and other western leaders) parrot Trump's lies about Iran, it gives them greater legitimacy on the global stage. In so doing, he might pave the way for more war, including wars directly involving Canadians

It's not 'diplomatic' to lie for Trump after spending an election saying you were protecting us from Trump: it's just lying.

I must have missed PM Carney's parroting of Trump's lies about Iran, and his lying for Trump. I'll have another look.

Check his official release; he helps solidify Trump's narrative that bombing Iran was about stopping imminent nuclear threats

Yes, I read that when he issued the statement. I actually read it as a rebuke. What would have been a better statement that would have made the point more clearly without activating Trump's oppositional defiant disorder?
