I’ve been in Saint John for several days now. It’s a port city with no real access to the water for the residents. I understand that things have been under construction for aout 2 years — and the only place that residents can actually go down to the water is a tiny strip called Tin Can Beach. I mucked up my shoes there but found some alright rocks. It feels terrible to have such little access to the water.
Saint John is also known for being one of Canada’s few cities with private water service. And I’ve never seen such a ratio of bars to absolutely nothing useful in a downtown.
I’ve recorded most of this week’s daily news podcast inside my hotel room closet. I rigged something up with the ice bucket, the garbage can, a pillow and a duvet hanging from the overhead bar. I wondered if the staff thought I was squanching in there (do yourself a favour and don’t look it up) but they politely left my duvet in there every day and just made the bed with the sheets.
Anyway, this podcast is a labour of love and this week especially, it took some serious love to pull it off while I also organized a national conference. You can listen to all of last week’s episodes here.
And good news! Sandy and Nora is back this week.
