I have finally got my act together to organize a book tour.
After events in Montreal and Ottawa, I was reminded that it is ultra important to actually head out and see people. The trouble is that my publisher is an independent publisher. That’s great for a lot of reasons. Just like when I published with Fernwood, independent publishers attract the best people and produce some of Canada’s best books. But it’s less great when you need to actually do promotion and publicity. Look at a big name with a big publishing house’s book tour list. They aren’t organizing that alone. Then imagine that I have to do everything from finding a venue to pushing people to come see me. Oh, and did I mention I also have to find a way to get myself, physically, out there?
That’s why you may of heard me, a few weeks ago, on the Daily News wish everyone a happy Friday when it was actually Wednesday. I was sure it was Friday. I flew to Ottawa on Aeroplan points, chaired a very in/tense meeting of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and then did a book launch event. I have little choice but to over crowd my days, lest I need to be further out of pocket for my promotion. Oh, and did I mention that I was also hiding under covers in a friend’s guest room to record the episode? Maybe I’m doing too many things.
But in the spirit of doing too many things, please come and celebrate at one of my next, probably over-packed but certainly fun book events coming up. I will be in Winnipeg, Hamilton, St. Jacobs, Toronto and Edmonton in the next few weeks.
