Well, I let the cat out of the bag with a quiet update to my last post. I have breast cancer. I don’t know the stage yet, or the treatment plan, but I have it. And as foreign to me the word “twins” was 11 years ago, I am guessing that I am about to become just as familiar with the word “cancer.” The good news is that now I’ll have a reason to practice saying cancer and concert in French which, to me, sound exactly the same, but I have confused people by mixing up the pronounciation many times over the past years.
Anyway. Right now, I feel good. Great even. Surgery will be scheduled in a few weeks and I’ll do what I’m told. I won’t have to organize my own surgery or radiation session, I won’t have to sell tickets to my appointments, or book sound guys and equipment for my scans. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel a pang of relief. Standing back and looking over my past year, I realize that it’s been insanely stressful. And while I’ve been OK, I’ve been aware that I was at my limit. It’s impossible to do 10 jobs at once and while nothing gave, here is my forced stop. I’m not mourning this. Yet.
Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me. It’s been amazing to see so many familiar names. Do not worry — I am taking care of myself, I have a great support network, I am happy, WW3 aside, and giviner — not too hard, of course!
