So vital to expose this! Thank you for the proof that the Zio propaganda machine continues to churn.

As one does: exactly. Funds that should be invested in decaying infrastructure, service organizations and the pursuit reconciliation in the broadest sense, that increase social coherence at home and elsewhere, are being directed to militarization and them that profit from it. Write on, Nora! Yr work is urgently needed, now. Thank you.

A good question. I have questioned the tenants of various isms, and with more real-world experience and appreciation for the precariousness of things, have come to understand the futility of debate, in favour of trying to get to the bottom of who benefits, and why. I know little of Zionism, and have been lucky enough to learn of the experiences people and other living beings in the context of time and place. In my case, the experiences and oral histories of family and friends, close observation, and formal learning, as well as a shit-ton of reading, writing and work with marginalized communities, both inside and outside legal and political frameworks of the time, have led me to appreciate informed critique. So that is the spirit in which I have commented on Nora’s piece. Peace.

Zionism is not your usual ism. Here's a small glimpse of what key aspects of my lived experience have taught me about it.

Great article and especially timely in light of this latest UN report on the Israeli targeting of children in Gaza and the West Bank. Our depraved elite need to be dethroned just as Israel needs to be dismantled.

In Germany in the 1930s similar elites supported antisemitism . The Jews just can’t win. The Jews must learn to love antisemitism and anyone who is against antisemitism must pass some purity tests as set out on this diatribe. To be against antisemitism is only acceptable if you are poor powerless and without a voice I gather from this propagandist.

You're powerfully missing the point. If we're going to collectively fight antisemitism, cannot 1. be rolled into the insanity that is support for Israel or 2. be lead by Canada's richest men because **they do not care about ending hatred**

LAR's avatar

Thanks for your response. Now I have a better understanding of your position. Antisemitism can only be collectively fought if Canadian Jews denounce Israel, a country over which they have no influence and denounce capitalism. Most Canadian Jews are appalled by the actions of the Israeli government. But that is apparently not sufficient. How can we measure your standards? Perhaps some clerics from Iran hamas or hezboallah can conduct inquiries. Those who pass could be awarded a red Star of David to wear on their clothes to demonstrate that no antisemitism should be directed at them. I look forward to your next article setting out what other minorities must commit to to avoid racism Islamophobia etc.

I don't know where you've decided I've prescribed what Jews need to do. I think that Israel needs to be condemned, boycotted and sanctioned. Do Jews specifically need to lead that call? Be part of that call? It's up to them. But I do know that the harm being caused by Jewish institutions tying themselves in knots to defend a foreign country currently engaged in genocide is a very big problem. If it's true that most Jews are appalled by the actions of Israel then they probably should be denouncing the folks speaking in their names defending the actions of Israel. But, again, that's up to Jewish people themselves to decide.

This is a very informative piece............one more bit of the puzzle of why Canada, and a majority of Canadians, many who see themselves as 'progressive', were able to look away from a genocide that was obvious within months of the Oct. Hamas attack.

Palestinians have paid a high price for the slow education of the west....but going forward, support for Israel will have to be more covert............and accusations of antisemitism based on criticisms of Israel's policies, more absurd.

Israel is an apartheid, genocidal state........madly intent on expanding its borders....that Canadian charities have been helping that project should by now be widely known. That we have been allowing that in contradiction of our own laws against funding foreign militaries, might even come out from the shadows.

Company heads who signed this letter could come to regret it. As an Anglophone, I'd appreciate getting a clear copy I could post. We aren't who we think we are in Canada....and its past time we clean up those murky but well financed disparities.

I wouldn't call it informative or factual really - it's sensational, ideological speculation. There's a lot of big reaches and baseless accusations here. Wage theft? Huh wha?

Nora Loreto's avatar

It isn't anyone's problem but your own that you don't know what wage theft is.

Momma's avatar

Oh I know what it is, missy

Nora Loreto's avatar

Don't seem to ma'am

Ingamarie's avatar

A pretty sweeping generalization from someone who can't develop her/his own idea....there's a couple of logical fallacies included in your dismissal.

I appreciate critical analysis. Don't put much stock in sweeping put downs backed up by 0 data. Nor is your ignorance of wage theft proof that it doesn't exist.

Great article -- that and good for being the first to expose that list

Sorry, I am not francophone but I do read/write French quite well. I missed the part that says these signatories are zionists or that they are calling for freedoms of expression to be restricted (when I think that it actually says the opposite?).

The (English) version of the ad in the Toronto Star was signed by two LIUNA bigwigs.

not the main point here but where did you get the numbers for the portion of wealth hled by the 1%? Just curious if there was a breakdown of all wealth brackets

Nora Loreto's avatar

It's from Oxfam's latest report. I thought it linked to it in the text but I must have forgot!

Ian McNamara's avatar

thanks, I’ll try to search it up

the preview to the report is a little misleading. It says “almost as much as the bottom 80%” but the ‘almost’ is a little bit of a stretch. It’s 24% to 30%.

Still, to say that you have a functioning democracy under these conditions is crazy
